La tribù delle Podalyrieae fece la sua comparsa durante l'mwgwOlocene, 30.5 ± 2.6 milioni di anni fa nel mwhafynbos mwhqsudafricano, il quale costituisce ancora oggi pressappoco il suo mwhgarealecite-ref-boatwright-3-0[3]cite-ref-linder-4-0[4].

Tutti i membri della tribù esibiscono strategie di resistenza agli incendicite-ref-schutte2-5-0[5].

Molte specie vengono mwlgimpollinate dagli insetti, in particolare dagli appartenenti al genere mwlwmwmaXylocopacite-ref-schutte1-6-0[6], altre da mwnqroditori o da uccelli della famiglia mwngNectariniidaecite-ref-boatwright-3-1[3].

Le Podalyrieae fanno parte del ‘clade genistoide’, un raggruppamento mwpgmonofiletico che include anche Crotalarieae, mwqaGenisteae, mwqqThermopsideae, Brongniartieae, mwqwEuchresteae e Sophoreae mwrqmwrgs.s.cite-ref-7[7]cite-ref-8[8].
